The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year. The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship. A Season of Consistency Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final. The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year. This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Numbers Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic £11m in tournament winnings. She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media. On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level". Other WTA Award Honorees Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year. Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot. Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair. Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals. Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
